Bad (or no) background checks lead to Bad Hire Days.

Bad Hire Days is dedicated to telling the hair-raising stories that arise when employers fail to conduct quality employment background checks on candidates for employment. Bad Hire Days is a publication of Imperative Information Group, a provider of background investigations to employers nationally.

Our aim for Bad Hire Days is two fold:

    1. We want to educate employers on the risks of using cheap background checks (or no background checks at all) when making employment decisions. We hope that you can learn from the mistakes of others.
    2. We also want to answer anecdote-for-anecdote those who suggest that employers’ ability to run background checks (or even to inquire about an applicant’s criminal history) should be limited in order to create a fairer, more just society. Certainly employers need to ensure that they are not discriminating against a protected class of people without a business necessity. However in each of the situations we share at Bad Hire Days, it is difficult to argue that had the employer had better information when making the hiring decision, they may have avoided a headache – or even a tragedy.

Okay, there is one other objective here. We hope that employers who recognize the need for reliable and meaningful background information on job seekers will reach out to Imperative Information Group for assistance in making better hiring decisions.

One thing we should probably point out here: The stories related on Bad Hire Days reflect the information available to us on the publication date listed on each post. Though we find most of these items in news media accounts, we do not rely solely on those accounts to be correct (and often we do find that they are incomplete). Just like when we conduct a background check for an employer, we conduct our own research directly with the courts to ensure that our readers get the best information available.

At some point after the publication date, the circumstances might change. Every defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
